The country exported 304,994 tons for $135.7 million in the first two weeks of May, the association was cited by the state-run Vietnam News Agency as saying.
Asian countries were the biggest importers of Vietnamese rice, accounting for 72.3% of the country’s total rice export volume, followed by African and Middle East with 14.6% and 9.6%, respectively.
The country will export between 1.3 million and 1.4 million in May and June, raising the total volume to be exported in the first halt of this year to 3.3 million tons, some 300,000 and 350,000 tons lower than that of last year, VFA added.
The association blamed the drop for a sharp decrease in the Euro value that had driven up the price of imported goods, discouraging EU countries from importing, and an increase in the global rice output, particularly in Asian countries. (VietnamPlus, Youth)
